Voted. Love the ork piece. Really creative and the painting on the dread is great. Hope you can enter it into a competition or something, I think it'd do well.

Thanks Bailey! I am going to try and make it to Kubla Con this year and enter some stuff. I figure this piece should easily fit into several categories.

Life is crazy! Every time I sit down to paint I either get a baby put in my lap or some minor domestic crisis erupts. We do have a new water heater now. And we have taken the first steps toward potty training the older baby.

I had a couple of hours lined up to paint the other night and my air compressor broke. No big deal to fix it and the guy on the phone sent the part for free but I did not get the painting done.

So instead I did the bases for the Ebay Killa Kans. I think the one with the wires and the improvised tank trap came out the best.

These are made out of Magic Sculpt, an old (smashed) CD player and some bits from the bits bin. Basically I pile some magic sculpt on the base then stick things in it. I Let that dry and add some dirt with PVA glue.

I have been very slowly getting some work done on the Termies. I think I just need to do the chest wings and maybe some of the little decorative skulls before I can sponge battle damage on them them with smoke and boltgun metal. I should bite the bullet and do it because I bet the battle damage will make me like working on them again.

Finally, since I was bored of the Termies and couldn't fire up my airbrush to start my Ebay project, I sat back down with this little lady from Reaper:

She looks pretty cool right? I started her and got 90% done this summer but then everything except for her face looked really drab and flat. So I put her down. I got some good advice at the painting workshop I went to, to do some light "blacklining" and force some shadows, and I think she is looking pretty good. Orange and warm brown are the answer! Do you guys have tips for the NMM on her scabbards or the blade? I also need some help on that skin tone shoulder. Warm brown maybe?

This was my inspiration for her PJ;

So all in all I got a lot done this week, like this post! I guess the key is to just keep putting one foot in front of the other. :)

Nice work. So you paint with your feet one in front of the other huh? Okay, so blackadder uses spit and you use your feet. I'm clearly doing something wrong using tears and my opposable thumbs...

I like the techno rubble bases, i will need to try that instead of overthinking things...and i have a lot of broken electronics.

I relly like the subdued Reper mini paint job and do not see any thing wrong with the blade...maybe add a starburst type highlight at one of the white spots like it is catching the light just right.

Man I love the nose!
I think just a tiny X to simulate a glint on the blade and maybe pure black at the bottom tip and near the handle. Nice white highlight around the blade.

Yeah Im desperate to do some painting got the belt painted on the chaos lord, then burping and lots of walking around trying to settle only just starting to remember how much work the 1st one was.

Canny, It's shocking how totally uncooperative newborns are right? You can't bribe them or put them in front of the TV and they literally need to eat like every 1.5 hours.

Ok guys, where do I put this "X" on the blade? Can some one show me a convincing photoshop job or a good example from the gallery? I am thinking of Zab's "Sleeping Chibi" and I don't think that will work for this mini... Hmm maybe Tenball's latest trooper? Time for research!

Here's what I found with the nmm. It doesn't have to be right so much as look right. So sometimes it's just a matter of "physics be damned" and put it were it looks cool and will stand out. Here's my super quick example done in an "awesome" program called paint...

Might not be exactly the right place, but kinda cool (I think).

Krulebear, I hear you on the bases I have a bunch of half baked elaborate techno bases in the bits box. With like rivets and mesh gratings and stuff maybe I will use them someday. Also the 60mm bases are nice big size to mess around with. They're done I will get picks up soon.

For now here is an update of the thief. I cleaned up some mistakes and tried to fix up the leather armor some more. Fixed the orange spot on her eye I also replaced her keys with wire, which moves around so that's kinda cool. Added some color to her arms but these pics are a little harsher than the last ones. I need a permanent photo set-up. Maybe something that folds down from the wall?

And I did an 'X' It looks pretty cool you guys were right...I might try to shrink it a little. I did half-assed attempt on a second 'X' too Canny I added black, good call... What do you folks think?

The keys are a nice touch and the x on the blade is so crisp and perfect. Very nice. Also do you think some smudge marks on the face would give her a little more depth or would that possibly hender what you have so far.

Thanks guys,

I think my next steps are:

  • To do some better NMM on the hilt of her slicer.
  • Add/fix highlight on her sword arm. I originally thought of it as coming out of the shadows but with the nmm I think it needs more light.
  • Add a tiny bit more white to the top of the back of her blade, just a micro dot.
  • I am going to NMM her belt buckle. that hole area is very cluttered and maybe that will help. I guess I could make her belt pouches different colors but that goes against what I am trying to do overall...
  • I need to figure out what is going on under her sword arm - arm pit. I think that is another scabbard that is empty and the grey cape.
  • I want to add a sword hilt to fill the empty scabbard across her lower back - maybe that will help organize that area.
  • Sell reaper figs and buy hassle free

Digga, I am not touching the face for now. It is my favorite part and I don't want to mess with it. It was pretty hard for me to get that blush worked out. I guess, after I get everything else done and the base completely finished I may go back in with something super subtle to help tie it to the scene but it is off limits until I get everything else pushed out to the limit of my skill.
