Wow thanks all!
@SaintT thanks buddy. This is really pushing me but it isn't the biggest base challenge. That gets awarded to the slice of pirate ship waiting patiently on the side lines, THAT on is stupidly intimidating but will have to wait it's turn
@ Ten thanks mate, I'm so looking forward to seeing your stuff at Salute.
@ Alowan good spot mate you are 100% correct
@ Maenas thanks mate
@ S-Brot thanks dude. It's my first go at confrontation miniatures and I have to say I'm loving them. Sooo much character
@ Khavor yeah the car has been both a blessing and a curse. I missed the holiday but I haven't had this much uninterrupted painting time for months!
@ Daegond ok so the basic steps of this base where
1) make a contoured hill from layers of cork (thing map contours for the different levels)
2) use air dry clay to bloke in the hill
3) once the clay is dry, super glue cut down pieces of tree bark to represent the large craggy rocks
4) paint the base with a mix of water and white glue. Small sections ata time. Onto this I scatter a mix of sand, brick dust and small stones and debris. Wait for this to dry and apply more if needed
5) I sorted out around 150 small pebbles from a bag of Herebrook grit 5, placed them where I wanted them and then went around gluing them all down
6) done
for the grass I've used a number of different brands as each has a different property which helps stop it being to uniform. GW, miniNatur and I can't find the other one. I've got several different colour but for the yellow, orange and red tufts I've had to dye my own as the colour I wanted weren't available
hope that helps

honestly your best bet is to look online. There are literally hundreds of great tutorials out there all who will be far better at explaining the process than me

having said that if you want to know anything else, I'm happy to help
Thanks Itonwork and BAM
so mixing it up a little to keep it interesting. Bit of work done on the stone spear. I'm tempted to go a little darker in the shadows but as WGS suggested, I'll wait until I've done a little more so I can judge the overall colour
C&C welcome
Tim
